Bronzetto and the sound masks of artist Yuval Avital

ART AND CRAFTSMANSHIP MERGE IN A UNPREDEDENTED PROJECT

The Israeli artist Yuval Avital, known in the world of contemporary art for his icono-sonic performances, together with the Art Crafts Observatory of the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation, collector of creative and productive Tuscan artisan realities, have involved Tuscan artisans and production centers of excellence in the NEPHILIM project. Inspired by the humanoid population told by the Bible, the sound mask installations designed by Yuval took shape in various artisan workshops and were the protagonists of exhibitions in Florence and in other Italian cities.

THE ENCOUNTER BETWEEN ABSTRACTION AND MANUAL SKILLS

In the Bronzetto workshop Yuval met the artisans and technicians, spoke to them with his specific language coming from an abstract dimension far from the practicality to which they are accustomed, but involved them, albeit reluctant, in his experiment: giving life to the ideas that animated his sketches, human-like masks made of iron and brass. The encounter between the two artistic realities, the abstract of the creative and the concrete of craftsmanship has enriched both.
